Day 111 - 8/14/12 Ashland Aftermath

Contents:  Ashland-Spring Fed Pipe By Pond (11.7 miles)

Sometimes getting back to the trail is an accomplishment in and of itself, and making miles becomes virtually irrelevant.  Today was one of those days!  We were all super tired and unmotivated this morning and wound up having a fantastic night out last night and many people were feeling the effects this morning.  The pizza place was really cool.  Great pizza that reminded me of Pagliacci's, some chill live music, and lots of concert posters on the wall.  After dinner, we hit a nearby bar where an oldies cover band was playing and proceeded to shut the place down.  Definitely a night well lived.

Anyway, back to today.  We had a relaxed morning at the hostel.  Our friend Sidhartha's parents live in Ashland and were hosting a bbq/pool party today as he just made it into town, so there was much discussion about whether to attend.  Since I'd already taken one zero, I was leaning toward hiking out, as were Shameless and Smiles.  Unfortunately, Mellow on the other hand, needed to stick around in order to finish drying his freshly washed sleeping bag and pick up his credit card which he'd left at the bar last night.

The four of us got breakfast at the Green Tea Leaf before Smiles, Shameless, and I parted company with Mellow so that we could head back to the trail.  Before getting a hitch, we stopped by a running store so Shameless could look for new shorts (no dice!) but I wound up buying a new t-shirt to replace the extremely holey one I'd been wearing.

The hitch was easy.  We got picked up right away by a women who'd thru-hiked in 2000.  Super nice, and we were back at Callahan's in no time.  The hiking was kind of brutal today....we were all exhausted and moving slowly in the heat.  The terrain was fairly gentle but less than spectacular scenery-wise.  Gorgeous sunset though and we are camped by a spring with delicious water.  A SOBO hiker named Gary joined us for dinner and Cheers and Heavy, two NOBO's who skipped ahead recently rolled in as well.

Off to bed!  Have a great night!
