Today was another successful day. Shameless and I had a great night camped behind the Shasta Basecamp Gear Shop. Jaw Bone and Night Watch also crashed with us. It was a bright night with the full moon but I slept really well. We definitely appreciated the hook up and were glad to save money by not paying for a motel.
After Shameless and I woke up, we stopped by the motel and then hit a coffee shop a few blocks away for pastries and drinks. From there, we headed back to the motel, organized, and then mosied to the natural foods store where we hoped to yogi for a ride. Within minutes we were all on our way back to the trail. The town of Mt. Shasta was pretty great. It's located within the state of Jefferson and definitely attracts a lot of unique characters......an interesting mix of hippies and libertarians. Our cab driver yesterday told us were to find magic if we were "open." It was certainly a very spiritual and wonderful place.
The hiking today was hot and thirsty. We were feeling LAZY! We took the first few miles slowly and never really picked things up. We hiked past the Castle Crags which were absolutely gorgeous and did our last few miles by moonlight. I'm now camped on a wooded saddle with Nugs, Tourist, Shameless, Itchy and Scratchy. Nips and Wildflower were with us for most of the day but split out at a trail junction to meet up with one of Nips' college mentors who's passing through the area. With any luck, they'll catch us tomorrow.
It's super late! Off to bed!
